EMSculpt Neo: Redefining Body Confidence

In October 2024, EMSculpt Neo received additional FDA clearances, extending its use beyond aesthetics to include functional wellness, sports performance, and rehabilitation.

It may offer supportive benefits for certain musculoskeletal concerns, such as:

  • Back pain
  • Tendon conditions (e.g., Achilles, shoulder, tennis & golfer’s elbow)
  • Diastasis recti (post-pregnancy abdominal muscle separation)
  • Muscle weakness or stiffness
  • Sciatica
  • Osteoarthritis

While EMSculpt Neo is not specifically licensed to treat these conditions, emerging clinical studies and positive client feedback indicate potential value as part of a supportive care plan.

Physio Assessment & EMSculpt Neo Plan

At London Skin Clinic, your journey begins with an in-depth musculoskeletal assessment carried out by our Consultant Physiotherapist. This comprehensive evaluation identifies your specific needs, underlying muscle imbalances, and any relevant health considerations. Based on these findings, your physiotherapist will design a tailored EMSculpt Neo treatment plan to support your goals—whether that’s functional rehabilitation, improved sports performance, or enhanced body confidence.

All EMSculpt Neo treatments are then delivered by a certified Reshape practitioner, ensuring the highest level of safety, precision, and care.

Personalised EMSculpt Neo treatment plan

Please note: The EMSculpt Neo treatment itself is generally not performed during the physiotherapy consultation. Your treatment sessions will be booked separately to ensure optimal planning and results.

EMSculpt Neo: New FDA Clearances

EMSculpt Neo delivers powerful therapeutic benefits to the musculoskeletal system by enhancing:

  • Muscle strength
  • Muscle function (improving brain nerve muscle communication)
  • Local blood circulation

In recognition of growing scientific evidence supporting these effects, the FDA granted new indications for EMSculpt Neo in October 2024:

1. Prevention or slowing of muscle atrophy caused by inactivity
After injury or surgery, certain muscles may become immobilised and weaken over time. EMSculpt Neo can stimulate and contract these muscles even when immobilised helping to maintain their strength and prevent loss of muscle mass.

2. Muscle re education (restoring brain nerve muscle pathways)
Following injury, surgery, or neurological conditions such as stroke, muscles may become weaker and more difficult to activate. EMSculpt Neo triggers deep, intense contractions that help retrain muscles and restore effective nerve muscle communication, enabling the brain to engage them more effectively.

3. Maintaining and improving range of motion
By strengthening supportive muscles around joints and reducing stiffness, EMSculpt Neo can improve flexibility, enhance stability, and allow for greater freedom of movement.

4. Immediate post surgical calf muscle stimulation to reduce venous thrombosis risk
After surgery, reduced leg movement can increase the risk of blood clots. EMSculpt Neo helps keep calf muscles active, improving circulation and reducing the likelihood of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

5. Relief of muscle spasms
Targeted contractions generated by EMSculpt Neo can help ease painful spasms, relax tense muscles, and improve functional movement.

6. Enhancing local blood circulation
Increased blood flow supports tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and may accelerate recovery.

Rehabilitation of Common Injuries with EMSculpt Neo

Back Problems
Injuries such as lumbar muscle strains, ligament sprains, or herniated discs often result in a reduction of core muscle strength. The core which includes the deep abdominal muscles, spinal erectors, and multifidus plays a critical role in maintaining spinal stability and supporting everyday movement. When these muscles weaken, the spine is left more vulnerable to pain, instability, and further injury.

Shoulder Injuries
Conditions such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder impingement syndrome, or post surgical weakness require precise rehabilitation to restore full mobility and strength. The shoulder is a highly mobile yet inherently unstable joint, relying heavily on surrounding muscles such as the deltoids, trapezius, rhomboids, and rotator cuff group to provide stability.

Knee Injuries
Damage to key stabilising structures such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), or patellar tendon often leads to persistent weakness in the quadriceps and hamstrings. Weakness in these muscles can compromise knee stability, slow recovery, and increase the risk of re-injury. Stronger quadriceps and hamstrings improve load distribution across the joint, reduce strain on healing tissues, and support a quicker, more confident return to activity.

Hip and Pelvic Problems
Injuries to the hip flexors, pelvic stabilisers, or gluteal muscles whether from sports, overuse, or surgery can significantly impact balance, mobility, and overall functional movement. Weakness in this area often causes compensatory strain on the lower back and knees. This improved stability supports correct movement mechanics, enhances balance, and enables a safer, faster return to both daily activities and athletic performance.
